The Nether got a huge update but the Nether Fortresses were left behind to be dull and boring. The Fortresses need a big update since they take a big part in beating Minecraft.
Fortress Entrance and Central Hall: A main entrance using an arch way of some sort using fortress blocks and red nether bricks since they are just in the game but aren't actually naturally generated. The fortress could also have a central hall, this would be about a 16x16 room, lava fountains pouring out from the corners, designs on the walls using multiple variants of normal and red nether bricks, magma cube spawners guarding the entrance to this room, this room contains a mini-boss and even some loot.
New Blocks/Variants: An infested type block using soul sand, having the soul sand or souls look like it's spreading throughout the fortress. The nether brick and red nether brick blocks could use some cracked variants to make the fortress look older, and chiseled red nether bricks.
Mini-Boss: In the Central Hall of the fortress there would be a mini-boss that spawns once you go into the central hall. This mini-boss would have a mixture of a magma cube and a blaze, shooting fire balls that set things on fire and turn blocks into magma blocks. (Please comment a name for this mob)
Fortress Hallways: The hallways would have more depth and place for lore, with traps, more designs, and old buildings to resemble a past civilization.
