I know jukeboxes have been done to death here in the feedback and by word of mouth, but hear me out.
I've played around with the idea in my head about how jukeboxes can be automated and read. Here's the concept everyone agrees with and I do as well:
- Hoppers should be able to push and pull discs in and out of the jukebox.
- Dispensers should be able to push discs in jukeboxes (it could pull them back out, but I don't think it should).
Here's my addition to this:
I figured there should be a way to identify when a song is done playing, as that will create a seamless transition between songs depending on the redstone configuration. Behold, the duration output. Using the sculk sensor as an example, we can see that it emits power directly into a redstone line or you can sort power levels through a comparator. Taking that concept we can apply it to the jukebox. What if the jukebox emitted a level 15 signal directly into a dust line at the beginning of whatever disc, then gradually decreased as the song finished up? Sorting through music discs would still stay the same, and most of the functionality would also remain. It would not power directly above or below the jukebox such like a redstone torch does not power the block it is resting on (after all, it's not a redstone block).
Additional concepts:
- Pause feature: Powering the jukebox while a disc is playing would pause the song, un-powering it would unpause the song.
