This is my take on how the Allay should work:
PROBLEM: The Allay is currently being worked on and therefore has some issues. One of these issues is how it should sort items. Or rather how precise it should sort items.
One example is enchanted books: Let's say Sharpness. Should it sort it precisly as it is, sharpness 1 can only be sorted with sharpness 1's. Or should it sort all sharpness books together, level 1-5. Or perhaps not distinguise which book it is and sort all enchanted books together.
FIX: My idea is that we get 3 types of Allay (different colors so that one can tell them apart). Each of these Allays will have a certain level of precise-ness.
Let's say the blue one will sort blocks and items by type. What I mean is that all wool blocks get sorted together and all books together, same with terracotta etc. (This would not include stairs and slabs, unless it feels better)
If we have a red one, maybe it would sort it a bit more precise, taking key features into consideration, like what type of enchantment, what color (includes shulkerboxes), and what type of armor (is it diamond or gold).
And as a 3rd type, green maybe, would be exact copies (though, maybe not durabilities). These would sort out books by level, armor by what enchantments it has on it and similar things.
This is how I would solve this issue. Give us the option so we don't lock the possibilites
Becaues if we want a less precise sorting system but the Allay is super sensitive then it would have to be way larger
