In 2020 (before the release of the Xbox Series X/S) Microsoft demonstrated Minecraft with ray tracing running natively on an Xbox Series X. This prompted people to seek out a purchase of this console with the expectation of having access to ray tracing. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. Instead, Mojang decided to stay completely silent about it. Myself and many other people concluded that it will most likely never come and that we were intentionally misled.
A few days ago however, a surprise update! Mojang released a new preview build that included support for Series X/S consoles to enable ray tracing. Finally! I remember being genuinely over the moon about this information. This made me infinitely more excited about the upcoming update as well. We could also clearly see that the preview ran extremely well on Series X.
However, shame on us for getting excited. Mojang announced a few days later that this was a mistake and does not mean they plan on supporting ray tracing for consoles. Immediately, my excitement turned to dissapointment, and then anger. It's been 2 years since we saw that demo, and now this? Shame on you Mojang. Seriously.
We can see that it was working. Just give us it.
My theory: either they genuinely don't care about their fans and wanted to intentionally make the console experience worse than pc OR there is a shady deal between them and Nvidia that restricts this from happening. Either way, shame on you Mojang
