I feel like Ancient Cities need some more unique items/rewards. For me ancient cities and deep dark have 2 quite important themes attached to that: 1) darkness and 2) sound. Based on that I have 2 suggestions.
1. Noteblock recorder
This item would allow the player to record the noteblock music and create unique record disks by connecting it to the start and end of the noteblock music piece (maybe only the start?). By activating it with a button or a lever it plays noteblocks and records it ether to a blank record disk or onto pre-excisting record disk. This item would allow more creativity with music and would allow ambient music to be added to builds as doorbell sounds, enviornmental sounds, jingles etc without needing to have a massive close-by area for all the noteblocks. Also it wouldn't devalue noteblock music as an art form, because you still need to build one before you record.
2. Darkness conduit
This item would allow players to build buildings that are shrowded in darkness. Changes in light level rules allows to build dimly lit buildings without the worry of mob spawn but currently there is no easy way to build barely lit or fully dark builds. This item would act like conduit by showing an icon on your screen when in effect. Also this item could replace ancient city's game rule with an item that stops mob spawning. Rarity of ancient cities would stop overuse and that is why it wouldn't totally elliminate monsters from spawning but instead allow more creativity.
