The new loot in the Ancient City has endgame-materials, such as high level enchantments and diamond gear. Although they did buff the loot from the very underpowered loot in the experimental snapshots, this gear almost skips a very huge amount of progression. Here's what I suggest:
Replacing the overpowered items with something else...:
There can be items that are exclusive to the Deep Dark; found nowhere else. What these items can do is something others can't. To give you an example, the Totem of Undying was something solely to the Woodland Mansion, and Netherite was only in the Nether.
These were very creative on Mojang's end, and they could do something similar in the Deep Dark that could be a part of a new, larger progression... something highly sought out for.
What should the "item(s)" be, and what should they do?:
Of course, this is meant for Mojang themselves to decide in order to give off a creative spin. But they shouldn't do small things, similar to the suggestion "soul lanterns hurt mobs when they go nearby", as that is mainly for convenience... and doesn't do much. They should do some things that are as big as the Totem of Undying and Conduit themselves.
Although they weren't really needed, the usefulness those items bring makes it why the majority of survival players want them so badly.
Progression is a big part of the game, and with newer things on the table, there can be so much more to be done in the game.
