The camel would act as a desert variation on an Alpaca. Camels (even today) are able to be ridden and I felt like it would be interesting to have a desert variation on the alpaca, even giving some variety to the travelling trader (alpaca in most biomes, camel in desert biomes). Not only that, but there aren’t a lot of mobs that spawn in the desert, making it feel rather empty.
How the camel would work:
Behaviour: neutral, spits when attacked (much like the Alpaca does)
Uses: Pack-mule. When saddled, the player can equip it with a chest to carry items (much like a mule or donkey) and carpet can be placed on it to show different styles (like the Alpaca).
Other: the camel moves faster on sand, dirt, and gravel than it does on other ground blocks. (Ex: when on sand, dirt, and gravel, it moves faster than the average horse. However; on grass or stone, the camel moves slower than a donkey.)
