Imagine discovering a giant Eagle nest high in the mountains or hearing an Owl guarding its nest at night. Sentry Birds would add territorial wildlife to Minecraft through unique nests, defensive behavior, and specific characteristics.
Each bird species generates a unique nest in its native biome. Nests occasionally produce feathers and may contain eggs. Parent birds fiercely defend their nests from hostile mobs and players who get too close.
Bird eggs hatch into four stages: Egg, Hatchling, Juvenile, and Adult. The Golden Dandelion can be fed to a Hatchling. This will keep them as a hatching living in the nest forever and causes the parent birds to continue protecting the area around it. Rather than taming powerful birds directly, players earn the trust of their young.
Eagle (Mountains, Windswept Hills)
- Powerful dive attacks
- Hunts mainly during the day
- Targets phantoms and hostile mobs
Owl (Forest, Birch Forest, Dappled Forest, Taiga)
- Primarily active at night
- Hunts spiders, phantoms, and other hostile mobs
Crane (Rivers, Swamps, Mangrove Swamps)
- Specializes in shallow-water combat
- Dives underwater to attack Drowned and Zombie Nautilus mobs
Vulture (Savanna, Badlands)
- Killing blows grant a Looting-style bonus to mob drops
Each bird offers a unique benefit while making the Overworld feel more alive, rewarding exploration and creating a natural form of base defense unlike any current non-hostile mob.
