Minecraft’s Legacy Edition was first released on the Xbox 360 back in May, 2012, bringing Minecraft to consoles for the first time. Legacy edition was vastly different from the Java edition of Minecraft, with different UI, controls, and content. This version of Minecraft was soon brought to the PlayStation 3 in December, 2013, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in September, 2014, PlayStation Vita one month later in October, 2014, Wii U in December, 2017, and Nintendo Switch in May, 2017. Along with the differences from Java were the classic, beloved mini games of Battle, Tumble and Glide, which are loved by both the community and casual players. Following the release of Minecraft Bedrock on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, the older legacy version stopped receiving major updates, yet was still played by many. Did you know that you can still find people playing Minecraft on PS3 in 2026? Crazy, huh. Unfortunately, if you want to play the PS4 and Xbox One editions, you have to buy a disc for the game, which aren’t the easiest to come by.
My pitch is to bring back the older editions for all to play, if they own Minecraft, or if they want to buy it separately. This would bring immense happiness to players, and me. Me and my brother want some old Minecraft, and after years without it, I think it’s time. Please, Mojang.
