Hello Minecraft Java Edition World Generation Team,
I have an old world originally created in Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition that I converted to Minecraft Java Edition on PC.
The original playable area is approximately 1,000 × 1,000 blocks, with a height limit of around 255 blocks. Around this area, there is an additional border of approximately 1,000 blocks on each side, consisting mostly of water and stone, resulting from the original console world's size limitations.
I would like to regenerate only this outer border using Java Edition's normal terrain generation, while keeping the original playable area, terrain, and player-built structures completely intact.
Would it be possible to add an official feature that lets players select a region of an existing world and regenerate its terrain using Java Edition's world generation?
This would allow players to preserve their original Xbox 360 worlds while replacing the artificial-looking borders with naturally generated terrain.
I believe this feature would be valuable to many players who have preserved worlds from older console editions.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
