The Dragon Egg has been a static trophy block for 10+ years. It’s time to give it a true Vanilla purpose by allowing it to hatch into a balanced, mountable flying companion.
Here is how it would work without breaking the game or engine limits:
- Obtaining: To keep it fair on servers, every unique player who defeats the Ender Dragon for the first time receives one egg. It remains a non-renewable, unique reward for each player's journey.
- The Mount: Your tamed dragon does NOT break blocks when it flies, completely removing any base-destruction or collision issues.
- Balanced Speed (40 b/s): Rockets push an Elytra at ~33 blocks/sec. The dragon upgrades this to 40 blocks/sec. It’s fast but safe for server chunk-loading, and allows fun aerial 360-degree rolls.
- High Maintenance: Unlike the Elytra, this dragon requires heavy resources. It must be fed rare End-game items (Chorus Fruits/Dragon's Breath) to maintain energy.
- Training System: Spend resources to teach it basic, low-damage attacks, making it a high-effort, high-reward endgame companion.
- Elytra is Still Essential: The Elytra stays relevant. The dragon is a massive mob that cannot be stored in your inventory, used instantly, or brought into tight caves, Nether tunnels, and deep mines.
- Coexistence: Elytra remains the king for building, quick tasks, and tight spaces. The Dragon becomes a specialized vehicle for long-distance open-air travel.
Let's bring the Egg to life without breaking game progression!
