In Java, when two pistons are powered at the same time and only one can activate, it's always going to be the same one as long as you activate it with the same switch each time. So the repeated behavior of the same redstone mechanism is consistent, which is important for many pistons mechanisms.
Bedrock doesn't have this. Since both pistons are being powered at the same time and only one can activate, it could be either one, which makes many consistent mechanisms in Java highly unreliable in Bedrock.
My proposal, for what could also be a major step in redstone parity, is to simply give Bedrock Edition that same deterministic redstone.
TL;DR: Pistons being powered at the same time should have consistent behavior in Bedrock. This would make redstone contraptions far more reliable and greatly help redstone parity.
