Introducing the Automaton: a craftable, player-sized protector designed to fight by your side. It cures survival loneliness in singleplayer and Hardcore while keeping the game balanced.
Core Mechanics:
1. Construction & Choices: Built from stone/iron blocks, a carved pumpkin, and revived with an Amethyst Shard. It has 4 slots: 1 for a weapon (sword/axe OR bow), 1 for a shield/totem, and 2 for ammo or food. It is strictly single-role. If an archer runs out of arrows, it resorts to weak punches.
2. Personalities: Its AI shifts based on its weapon. Melee Knights become aggressive, charging at threats to tank damage. Archers become cautious, backpedaling away from approaching zombies and creepers to snipe from afar.
3. Learning Curve: When built, it is clumsy and misses shots. As it travels and fights monsters, its hidden experience grows. A veteran Automaton lands critical hits, predicts enemy movement, and safely avoids Creeper explosions.
4. Jealousy: To prevent unstoppable armies, Automatons possess deep jealousy. If you build a second one, they will ignore monsters and duel each other until only one remains. You can only have one true protector.
5. Broken, Not Gone: When its health hits zero, it shatters into a pile of structural blocks on the ground, keeping its stored inventory and combat experience safe. The player can visit the crash site and use building materials to reconstruct and revive their friend.
