You can find ancient scrolls and use them to cast spells wich results in the scrolls changing their texture to burning away slowly and taking away some of their durability or use a staff crafted with 2 sticks on bottom and middle and on top a magic ruby that can only be dropped by a vindicator with the staff you can put in a small inventory like menu 1 spell and use it to cast them more powerful ways but the staff burns much more quickly through the spell scrolls.
Spells can be many such as .
1. Fire ball spell it lunches a fire ball projectile that explodes its similar to the ghast's attack.
2.dragons breath it uses the same attack as the ender dragon's fire breathing attack.
3.thunder it casts thunder at whatever you point it at.
4.statue freeze someone into a statue for a bit of time.
These are just some of my ideas but there could be more.
