I think it would be cool if the Brittle Ice had variable breaking rates. A couple ideas:
1) The speed you walk on it would affect how fast it breaks: sneaking slows it down, walking would be faster than sneaking, and sprinting would be faster than walking.
2) It could break faster/progress through more breaking stages by how “hard” you land on it. So for example, that maybe jumping on it doesn’t instantly make you fall through (which might upset players if they are jumping through an ice cave and unknowingly encounter it) but rather breaks through more stages yet gives you time to react; however landing from a fall would instantly break it.
3) This might make it too complicated but maybe weight could affect its breaking speed. So if you are wearing “heavier” armor or maybe if your inventory is fuller that it would break faster. Maybe to lessen this weight aspect it (if it’s complicated) it could only affect landing on it as mentioned in (2), such as if your inventory is full enough or if your wearing “heavy” armor then jumps would cause you to fall through instantly.
4) The rate at which it breaks could be affected by torches or other heat sources similar to the icicles. Maybe if the heat source is close enough that the ice would also just naturally progress and break over time.
Just some ideas, but it would be cool to have it be affected by many things rather than having a fixed breaking rate. Maybe the breaking rate could also be data driven for creators.
