I know there are already copper rails posts, but I mostly disagree on the way of implementing them.
It's no secret minecarts are almost completely obsolete as a form of transportation, barely even being faster than sprinting, much less horses, boats, and elytra.
And the problem with just making them faster is that it would break nearly every redstone machine and farm ever, probably why the experimental minecart features have sat as experiments for years. It's really hard as a developer to come up with a fun solution to please all types of players. (as a dev myself I know)
I think we all absolutely love minecarts, but it's so hard to ever justify using them for transport. You need a bottomless amount of iron and gold for a lackluster form of transportation.
And here's where the fix comes in: a new type of rail, powered copper rails, that can achieve a speed significantly faster than their gold equivalent. All the redstone will still work and minecarts can compete again. "Won't that make regular rails obselete?" Yes! But that is a sacrifice worthy of making to make minecarts more fun for players.
We can make this even more fun through unpowered copper rails that behave just like iron, but cheaper. The unrealistically high price of rails will no longer be a limiting factor on our fun of building big tracks, and after this I doubt you'll see anyone passing by a copper vein unmined again!
Born to be in the copper age drop, but always better late than never! So, can I get your vote?
