Most snake suggestions so far focus on dangerous, venomous enemies. This one is different: a small, harmless snake that players can tame, collect in biome variants, and whose shed skin gives the Potion of Luck its first survival recipe.
Appearance and variants
Each biome has its own pattern (green for plains, sandy for desert, dark for swamp, and so on), which gives players something to collect.
Rare albino variant
Very rarely, an albino snake spawns in the wild. Tamed snakes can also be bred by feeding two of them raw meat, and the offspring has a small chance of being albino. It is purely cosmetic, like the blue axolotl, but it gives collectors a special variant to look for.
Behavior
Spawns in plains, savanna, desert, swamp and jungle. It is neutral: it flees when approached and hisses when cornered. It rests in sunny spots and hides in grass or sand at night.
Taming
Feed it any raw meat. A tamed snake can sit and follow, like existing pets. It can also coil around the player's shoulder or arm, like parrots do. While there, it hisses to warn of nearby hostile mobs, similar to how a parrot imitates them.
Shed skin and the Potion of Luck
Only tamed snakes shed their skin. When a tamed snake is fed raw meat, it sheds after a while and drops the skin as an item, with a cooldown before it can shed again. Shed skin becomes a new brewing ingredient for the Potion of Luck, which currently cannot be brewed in survival. Shedding stands for renewal and a change of fortune.
