[For Java and Bedrock Editions]
Redstone Comparators can reduce signal strength using subtraction mode, but this requires a side-signal input, making circuits unnecessarily complex. I propose adding a Redstone Attenuator to both editions, providing a simpler way to reduce redstone signals.
How it works:
-
Mechanics: Outputs the rear input signal minus the configured attenuation level.
-
Formula: Output = max(0, Input Signal − Attenuation Level).
-
Range: Attenuation is fixed from 0 to 14, regardless of input strength.
-
Interaction: Right-click to increase attenuation by 1. After reaching 14, the next click resets it to 0. The setting remains unchanged when input strength changes.
-
Visuals: A slider or torch on the block's texture indicates the configured attenuation level.
This block would simplify analog redstone circuits, reduce wiring, and make redstone engineering more accessible to beginners. Like repeaters, attenuators would provide a dedicated, intuitive tool for manipulating signal strength in both editions.
