Minecraft Names

I've been playing Minecraft since close to the game's original release. I'm a bit frustrated because I want to change my username, but there just aren't any good usernames available.

As someone who didn't have my own computer or account access when the game first came out, I never got the chance to claim a good name for myself back then, and now the pool of available names is entirely flooded.

It is absolutely ridiculous that there are limited and unique usernames for this game in 2026. I think Mojang should implement account IDs. That way, there is no longer a worry about unique usernames.  (like Name #1234) (Let more characters, like periods and Alt codes, be used in names.)

It would be really nice to see some changes to make more names available. A username reclamation policy might be really helpful to recycle names from unused accounts. Expanded character support, allowing for a wider set of special characters beyond the current underscore-only standard, would meaningfully increase the number of unique, available combinations, giving more players the room to find a name they actually like.
