the base of the icicle could be removed using an axe.

The base itself is very nice, but it might not fit in many builds, so my idea is to add a mechanic similar to peeling wood using an axe.

    I would just suggest a different variant of stalactite. Like giving snow layers an overhang like grass blocks or pale moss carpets.
