Ice exploration idea

Turn ice blocks that are exposed to torches into sheer ice. A slightly see-through block that exposes hidden content within. It could be a variety of cool stuff, like fossils or shards you could use for crafting unique items? Some of these items could be brittle, so the only way you could get them is to either melt the block completely (could be dangerous inside the ice cave) or to use the Ice Pick™(not really ™). Ice Picks could be used as an all-round ice cave exploration tool, both for mining and for exploring. Firstly you could use it for breaking regular ice blocks without destroying them, and for sheer ice blocks to obtain the items inside. You could attach it to a crossbow (to give that thing another use) and use it kind of like a rappelling tool. You could wear two of them, one in each hand to climb blocks in a parkour sort of way - would be hard, but rewarding. I think something like this could make the ice cave really rewarding and fun to explore and to actually seek out!
