I think Minecraft should improve tamed dogs by making them smarter and safer to take on adventures.
Many players leave their dogs sitting safely at home because dogs can easily die from lava, falls, dangerous mobs, or accidental damage during combat. Instead of simply making dogs stronger, I think they should become more intelligent companions.
- Dogs should automatically avoid dangerous areas such as lava, fire, and deep falls.
- Players should be able to give their dog a “Go Home” command, making it return safely to its home and sit there.
- Dogs should have smarter teleportation, allowing them to catch up with players who travel quickly with Elytra without teleporting into dangerous places.
- Dogs should be able to enter a critical state instead of immediately dying from a large amount of damage, giving the player a chance to heal them.
- Players should be able to choose whether their dog should Defend, Follow, or Avoid Combat, so it doesn't blindly attack extremely dangerous mobs.
- Dogs could have a unique scent-tracking ability, allowing them to detect nearby creatures, follow trails, or help the player find their way back home.
- Dogs could also have more natural behaviors, such as playing with their owner, resting, and reacting to interesting things around them.
I don't think dogs need to become powerful fighters. They should become smarter, safer, and more useful companions that players actually want to bring on their adventures.
