Dynamic Lights is a feature in which, if a player holds an item that normally emits light when placed on the ground (such as torches, lanterns, etc.) in their main hand or off-hand, that item will also emit light while held. The light intensity could vary by block type (if the devs choose) or be the same for all of them (if they prefer). The light emitted by these held items would follow the player, providing a constant, supplementary source of lighting. This feature would be added as a settings option and would be entirely optional (whether it's enabled by default or not would be up to the devs).
Why add this feature?
- It fits perfectly with the Minecraft theme.
- It fits perfectly with the Drop Theme (Ice Caves), since the ability to light your way while exploring is excellent.
- It is simple to develop, yet it has great potential for the game.
- It won't replace other lighting methods, because it only works for nearby areas, while torches and other blocks would still be useful for lighting distant places and for fixed lighting.
- Since it is an optional feature that can be disabled, even if a player has a problem with it, they can turn it off with just one click. In other words, it is completely safe and feasible.
