Given the fact that Calcite seems to generate frequently in here it only makes sense to add a Calcite Block pallette, we haven't had an easy to obtain white block set that also looks pretty to really work with

I know the live talked about being alright with unrealistic generations for the ice and lava touching but it would be cool to see a barrier put up between them. Like if it was turned to basalt where the ice and lava touch. It would not only make a little more sense, but it might look cooler and give players an option for overworld basalt that spawns naturally

How did the snow get down here?

The vibe would be way more chilly and mysterious if the ice crystals emitted a cooler lighting tone - it feels so strange having them emit a warm light.

The ice caves are beautiful! Lot's of fun to explore, and definitively give a chilly vibe. I think something that could really add to the atmosphere of the biome and give it a more frigid or extreme cold feel would be to add the freezing effect or freezing ticks to entities inside water in the biome (or in water nearby/touching a specific block). That way it would add a slight feel of danger, but also emphasize the change in temperature and "mystical" or "frozen" feel.

Ice caves would benefit a lot from having its own unique ambient particles. This would make the caving experience even more immersive.

On top of that, if these ambient particles were produced by a special block, similar to the spore blossoms in lush caves, it would add even more incentive to venture into the ice caves.

Well, I did say it's a good thing, but we need a craftable Calcite and Ice Block.

I think the lava looks good too and interesting very Minecrafty. Maybe the lava could pool with basalt around it, so sometimes you find caves with no lava, other times you could find an ice cave next to a huge lava pool. Just because it would look beautiful.

Perhaps it suggests how cold this biome really is and that the land is so cold that lava doesn't have much effect here.

As for resources I think we need more incentive and creativity for the Ice Caves like why do we need to go here other than just because it's a cool ice cave. If you think about it irl ice caves would be at the edge of the world far away in desolate places like most cold biomes. Ancient things can be frozen in the ice, long forgotten by the world.

As already mentioned before i think due to the biomes materials we get an expansion of block types for those blocks. (Snow, Ice, Calcite, & Diorite)

I think the icicles and spikes should be reworked, as they don't quite fit the vanilla style. I wanted them to look like stalactites just frozen ones. It would be cool to have two types of ice caves: dark blue and light blue. As for the ore, I believe we should add specific blocks containing it embedding the ore inside calcium, ice, or frozen stone because the current patches look unnatural; I’d prefer the entire cave to be covered in snow and ice

There should be a way to find the caves on the surface like the other caves, Sulphur and Lush; an icy peak buried on the surface would be amazing.

I would like to suggest using the ice balls or the icicles to craft Ice Blocks, it would allow fully automatic ice farms.
It would also be interesting to have a way to farm Ice Crystals.
I think most things in Minecraft should be farmable, even if the process is complex.

The amount if ice in the cave seems fine, but the types of ice blocks could be expanded. Regular, transparent Ice in particular would be very interesting to see generate given that it's see through (can help locate ores), but runs the risk of flooding the cave if torches are placed too close.

The cave itself is beautiful, but it needs something truly iconic.

Perhaps dry ice? It could be generated naturally in caves(and upon contact with water it would emit a white smoke that could be colored with dyes)

There could also be compacted dry ice that would also form in caves, but underwater, giving the water a freezing effect, just like potent sulfur.

i think it ice caves should connect to the top of cave entrances (on bedrock preview it doesn't), it would make them more immersive and cooler that way.

Also, i think the deeper you go in ice caves, maybe packed ice could be replaced by blue ice, showing how deep the biomes go

You could start by adding different types of fish to each biome; in this case, cold-water cave fish. This would provide a new way to feed and collect all species. These fish would only appear in specific biomes and/or at specific times and weather conditions.

This would also be very good for enriching the environment.

it should have different (cave sounds) that sound echoey icy like in real life.

look for some more inspiration from real like ice glaciers and melting permafrost like ear water rivers flowing through.

Talking about ice frequency and functionality.

Currently in ice biomes, when breaking down packed ice with fists or a pickaxe with no enchantments the ice just breaks and you get nothing in return.

What if these ice blocks can provide the player with the new ice balls when mined with this equipment?

You could still also allow the player to gather packed ice like normal with silk touch, while also allowing for fortune or luck enchantments to give more ice balls when mined instead.

As for frequency it could be found in the deeper and more colder parts of the cave.

Also to keep things exciting when going deeper you should grab leather armour and or another new potion "Cold Resistance".

stone is the same you get nothing
so why would ice be different

sadly they likely won't implement all block fragmentation variation for a long time.

It would be cool to see bodies of water and waterfalls like we see inside of normal caves but frozen and made of regular transparent ice also cold biome cave entrances and ravines should be ice caves to make it more immersive

and now that we have ice caves, which is awesome, we without a doubt need desert caves!

The Ice caves often generate in rather small, claustrophobic cave generations. I have tested multiple worlds by now, and every single time the Ice caves are nowhere close to the size of what was shown in Minecraft Live, and what is shown in the image provided in this feedback header. Not to mention that they are very small in size.
These caves can be directly compared to Dripstone caves in features, but currently it is not as expansive, and large, and explorable, as any other cave biome or cave system are.

I have found that the Ice Caves tend to generate more often in the Noodle Cave system format, and rarely in Cheese Cave or Large Spaghetti Cave system format. This fails to suffice the "Adventure" aspect that Minecraft is focusing on.

The colors are great, love the large caves, the interactions with lava are great. Ore spawns are fantastic. Ice mineshafts are awesome.
Ice caves are a bit too dark.
Maybe blue ice crystals with blue icicles that could be a rare spawn that makes parts of the cave light would be a good fix.

Would love to see blue ice by the lava and blue ice balls while we are at it.

Only other thing I could ask for is igloos to be able to spawn in them.
And maybe somehow Ice lush caves, Or new ice fish, or maybe frozen squid.

maybe add a special white fog from raining or snowing on the surface that makes it like dry ice fog so you can't see even a few blocks in front of you. so people can only explore safely when it's not raining or snowing.

PLEASE let us place the icicle block on walls. id love to use it for building. Not too sure the name of it, but its this thing in particular. a way to stop the icicle from growing would be great. i really really enjoy how it seemlessly flows into the ice blocks/ https://minecraft.wiki/images/Attached_Icicle_Base_%28U%29_BE1.png?f8af7

I think ice archeology would be a really good feature to encourage exploration, being able to find things like maybe a snowy sniffer type thing in the ice and dig them out somehow would be really cool

I think the ice caves would feel nicer to explore if frost walker was buffed to give better friction on ice and/or a slight speed boost on ice. Right now no one really uses it over depth strider so it would be a nice way to keep that enchant something people would get without nerfing depth strider for no reason. It would be a great thing to buff theme wise.

Plus it would make the player feel smart for figuring out a way to make the caves easier when being chased by mobs

    • What are your thoughts on finding lava within ice caves? Does it feel surprising, interesting, out of place, or something else entirely?

I think it could work! As it stands, it seems a tad bit out of place however. I think Lava can still be in the biome, I just think it needs a separation, like surrounding Ice replaced with stone-y blocks, or more lava pools instead of lava springs. Lava could be especially interesting if it could nullify Freezing.

I want to applaud the execution of Icicles! I've always wanted a naturally-falling damaging block in a Minecraft Environment that could be a danger to the player, and Icicles are the perfect execution of that idea! I love that they fall due to light level, please never change that. I still think all the "Spike Blocks" could be given variety however, like Sulfur Spikes applying Poison and Icicles applying Freezing.
