I have always felt the Sniffer was a missed opportunity, offering only two decorative plants after so much effort to find and hatch. With The Sift announced, there is a perfect opportunity to redeem both its lore and its gameplay loop.
Lore-wise, what if the Sniffer was never native to the Overworld? Finding only two odd plants could simply be an ecological mismatch, it was digging in foreign soil. Its true evolutionary cradle could be The Sift! If players transport a Sniffer into The Sift, it could unlock its true potential by digging up brand new, functional flora across different biomes.
Depending on the terrain or biomes within The Sift, it could uncover bioluminescent plants for dynamic lighting, fibrous stalks that aid vertical movement, or hardened roots and seeds for new crafting recipes.
Instead of just decorative dyes, these dimension-native plants could offer true utility, such as unique brewing ingredients, natural light sources, or traversal tools tailored to the dimension's unique landscape. Transporting this mob across dimensions would reward players who build bases and farms inside The Sift. It connects both features beautifully.
