The Flail would be a slow, heavy weapon for creating space instead of dealing high damage. A fully charged Iron or Gold Flail knocks enemies back about five blocks, while Diamond and Netherite knock them back about six. A non-blocking target takes only half a heart, or one heart on a critical hit, regardless of armor, and their armor loses durability. Protection, Resistance, and other normal reduction still work. A partially charged swing is weaker.
Against a shield, the Flail does no health damage. It knocks the target back, disables the shield for six seconds, and removes about one fifteenth of its durability. Armor is not damaged while the shield is blocking. Since it charges slower than an axe, it is a weapon for a timed hit, making room to heal or escape, and stopping endless blocking—not a replacement for swords, axes, or maces.
The Flail would start at Iron, with Gold, Diamond, and Netherite versions. The recipe could use three matching materials across the top, a chain in the middle, and a stick below. It could use Knockback, Sweeping Edge, Unbreaking, and Mending. Sweeping Edge would split shield or armor durability damage between targets hit. Sundering could be a Flail-only enchantment that increases gear durability damage without increasing normal damage or knockback.
