Deer would have been a perfect addition to the new dappled forests, so here is how they could work. they would have 4 antler growth stages, spring (bald), summer (nubs), fall (medium growth), and winter (fully grown) and then when the cycle goes into spring again, they shed. And you can't kill them for their antlers, so players wouldn't mirror real life hunters and poachers by farming their antlers. Also two deer with full antlers can fight and lock together, and the loser will drop their antlers that way, similar to how goats lose a horn when ramming into a wall. If attacked, the deer will either run away or decisively charge at you, dealing more damage the larger the antler growth is, having a confidence meter, the larger the antlers, the more likely they retaliate. Struggling to come up with a use for antlers themselves besides bonemeal, but maybe they can be used for banner patterns or even a new armor trim design found exclusively in dappled forest abandoned camps, and antlers would be used for trim duplication. And to tie in with mounts of mayhem, have them be tameable and rideable. Using apples to tame and breed, you can also use a standard saddle and horse armor.
