Minecraft Dungeons II launches on Switch and Switch 2 on the same day, but on the Nintendo eShop they are two completely separate products with no connection between them. The Switch 2 version is not a "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition", so there is no upgrade pack, and buying one version gives you nothing toward the other.
This creates a real problem for Switch 2 owners. The two eShop listings look almost identical, and the purchase screen does not make the difference obvious. I own a Switch 2, pre-ordered the game, and only found out afterwards that I had bought the Switch 1 version. The pre-order was already charged, Nintendo does not refund digital purchases after payment, and the only way to actually play the Switch 2 version is to buy the whole game again at full price.
There are two easy fixes, and both already exist on the platform:
1. Cross-buy: owning the Switch 1 version makes the Switch 2 version 100% off on the same Nintendo account. Deltarune does exactly this on the eShop, with no extra engineering work.
2. A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack, free or low-cost, like many other cross-generation titles.
Either option would fix the mistaken-purchase problem, let families with both consoles play together, and make the Switch 2 version an easy choice instead of a second full-price purchase. Please consider adding one of these before launch or in an early post-launch update.
