Enderman should be able to pick up items on the ground when it is a block. when they do they hold it like a other blocks and can place it down.

a mechanic like this would allow endermen to pick up cobblestone from a creeper explosion.
or when a snow golem dies the carved pumpkin could be placed down, potentially even on 2 snow blocks to spawn a new one.
