I think it was a mistake to shift Minecraft’s musical identity toward an instrumental style that focuses on sounding good, but only within specific biomes. The instrumental music created by C418 relied heavily on ambient sounds and blended seamlessly with any biome or situation; the new music, by contrast, feels out of place. It’s not that the new music is bad, but at times it seems like it belongs to a different game, whereas Minecraft’s music was always defined by its simplicity and emotional resonance—C418’s sound sought to evoke joy or melancholy in the player without losing that signature, calm, ambient essence. The current music, however, seems to want to take center stage whenever a new biome is announced; because it was designed to play only in specific biomes, it isn't a constant presence throughout the game. To me, it feels like a waste of talent. If they want a sound that is consistent across all biomes, they should opt for a more ambient style: music that accompanies the player at all times, just as C418 so successfully achieved.
