This idea is designed for both Java and Bedrock.
Main ideas:
- Focus light into beams
- Redirect beams
- Receive Redstone signals from beams
- Resource balance
I propose Silverstone, a system that sends Redstone signals using light as its medium, similar to Soundstone. The three new components that make this possible require two rare End ores: silver ore and ender ore.
Components:
- Magnifiers are made from silver and amethyst. They focus light from adjacent light sources into invisible beams. Beams are only visible with Night Vision. Magnifiers are directional; light entering the wrong side diffuses instead.
- Reflectors are made from silver and redirect beams by 45° or 90°. They do not reflect visuals; they are NOT mirrors.
- Light sensors receive beams and convert their strength into equivalent Redstone signals. Beams can be blocked by entities or blocks, enabling extremely expensive, invisible tripwire-like systems.
Beams diffuse over distance. Players might wish to design relays.
Beacon beams can be reflected but cannot activate light sensors, allowing artistic uses (beacon art!)
Ore:
- Silver ore would be rare, comparable to diamonds if not rarer, making optical components expensive.
- Ender ore is even rarer, comparable to ancient debris, and explodes when looked at directly. It requires a Blindfold to mine and emits a faint Enderman-like screech, allowing players to locate it while blind.
