The current anvil frustrates players with exponential work penalties, low level caps, and quick degradation. This proposal makes anvils sustainable and balances Mending.
1-1: Fixed Material Repair
-
No cumulative penalty when repairing with base materials (diamonds, iron).
-
Full repairs require 3 to 7 material units.
-
Fixed cost: 1 XP level per material (3-7 XP total per full repair).
1-2: Item Combination
-
Unenchanted item combinations carry no work penalty; XP cost scales strictly with restored durability.
-
Combining enchanted items retains penalty scaling to balance merging spells.
1-3: 100-Level Experience Cap
-
Maximum anvil operational cap raised from 39 to 100 XP levels.
-
"Too Expensive!" screen only appears if an operation exceeds 100 levels.
1-4: Reduced Anvil Wear
-
Break probability reduced from 12% to 5.5% per use.
-
Extends anvil lifespan, lessening reliance on iron farms to replace broken blocks.
1-5: Mending Rework
-
Removed from librarian villager trades. Obtainable exclusively as a rare fishing treasure.
-
Crouch Activation: Experience orbs only repair Mending gear while crouching (fully supports "Toggle Crouch" accessibility option). When standing, XP goes directly to the player's bar for anvil use.
