It's been quite noticeable how over the years the 2 main versions of Minecraft were separated from each other, especially when the java edition (the 1st version of mc) changed its name to java edition and bedrock was changed to Minecraft (to indicate that it was truly the main version).
As we all know there's a huge chunk of players who'll never leave java due to both the fact that mc java is not a game full of bugs and poor optimizations (unlike bedrock) and mostly does not have the plastic graphics that bedrock does (e.g shadows, poor physics, BAD ui, EXTREMELY unnecessary comsetics and a LOT more).
So the point is, as much as Mojang does not want to admit it (obviously), Minecraft has been in a very conflictual state for some years now, so what's the point? Simply merge the 2 versions and yes, I am aware that they are both written in different languages, (and Mojang is too busy adding their low effort content each year to code a new game from scratch) but still they either massively upgrade the Java edition and port it to all consoles with cross-play, or they completely overhaul the poor experience that the bedrock edition has always been ever since its conception (not talking about console edition, that was a true love letter), unless of course they don't care about their playerbase, which they don't I am afraid
