1. Drop Rules (No Poaching)
- When Defeated: The elephant drops 0 items and only a small amount of experience points. This completely prevents players from hunting them for ivory or leather.
- Alternative Reward: Instead of killing them, players can use a Brush on a wild elephant to clean off dried savanna mud. This drops Clay Balls or Mud Blocks, rewarding players for caring for the animal.
2. Unique Behaviors
- Mud Bathing: Elephants will actively seek out mud blocks or rivers to spray themselves. The mud layer acts as a visual shield that protects them from burning in desert heat or taking damage from cactus blocks.
- Scaring Monsters: Due to their massive size, small hostile mobs like Zombies, Skeletons, and Creepers will actively run away from a mature elephant.
3. Herd Mechanics & Aesthetics
- The Matriarch Leader: Elephants travel in small family herds led by the largest female elephant. If you feed the leader, the entire herd will follow you safely across the savanna.
-
Visual Variants: To make them exciting to collect, elephants have subtle visual differences based on their exact spawn location:
- Savanna Elephant: Lighter grey skin with large ears.
- Desert Oasis Elephant: Darker, dusty skin covered in sand textures with smaller ears.
