I hope Minecraft can add native cloud saves for singleplayer worlds linked to a Microsoft/Minecraft account, instead of relying on external services such as OneDrive.
Main ideas:
- Automatic sync: sync on exit, at set intervals, or manually.
- Incremental sync: upload only changed world data.
- Version history: keep multiple backups for rollback after corruption or mistakes.
- Cross-device play: continue the same world on another device with the same account.
- Local + cloud backup: keep both copies.
- Conflict protection: if devices create different versions, do not overwrite automatically; let the player choose or restore one.
- Independent player identity: ownership and player identity are separate. Online players load their own data by account/UUID, including inventory, position, XP, etc. If they have never joined the world, they start fresh. Offline mode can identify players by name.
- World ownership: permanently show the original creator and separately the current owner. The owner has the highest authority; other operators cannot ban, kick, or demote them.
- Transfer/inheritance: ownership can be transferred or inherited, while original creator credit remains.
- Multiplayer compatibility: cloud saves should work with Minecraft’s official invite/multiplayer system. No extra whitelist is needed unless a player is banned.
This would let a Minecraft world safely follow players for years across new PCs, reinstalls, and device changes.
