Dropdown menu for blocks in creative inventory

as minecraft is adding a lot of new blocks (concrete stairs and slabs, wool stairs and slabs..) i think it would be useful to have the variants of blocks places in the same slot as the block, but in a dropdown menu. That would make it easier to find different variants and make the creative inventory less crowded, if in a future we get more variants (terracotta variants for example).
