Add native controller support to Minecraft Java Edition

Many players use handheld gaming PCs such as the ROG Ally, Steam Deck, and other Windows devices to play Minecraft. Currently, Minecraft Java Edition does not have built-in controller support, which makes the experience less accessible on these devices. Adding native controller support would improve the experience for many players while keeping all the advantages of Java Edition, such as mods, servers, and customization. Controller support already exists in Minecraft Bedrock Edition, and community mods have shown that it is possible to implement in Java Edition. An official solution from Mojang would make Minecraft Java more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

    Would love to see native controller support for Java Edition. My wife likes to play MCJE from her PC on the TV with an Xbox one controller and we would love to not have to launch it through steam. We have been playing Bedrock for a little bit but it's not the same experience. Also it's ridiculous to be able to navigate the launcher 100% with controller and launch Java Edition, but then not be able to play it with the same controller.

    Most modern games that follow Minecraft's movement set can handle native controller support. It's honestly the only thing that stops me from playing Java. Mods exist but are rarely maintained for all updates. It's very common for controller mods to be abandoned after a handful of game updates. As for external programs, I just think it's a crazy thought to think this is anywhere near ideal of a solution.
