While the purpose of the villager trade rebalance is directed at librarian villagers, it has a secondary effect of driving players to explore for different biomes and set up villages in them, even in biomes without naturally generating villages. The rebalance has been unpopular, to say the least. This suggestion isn't focused on the issue of librarian trades, but instead to encourage players to set up villages in different biomes.
Emerald is a variety of beryl. Villagers in different biomes could trade different variants of beryl:
- Emerald: Basic, many players already have some. Used for plains villages
- Aquamarine: Equal rarity with emeralds, cyan in color. Used for taiga villages
- Morganite: Rarer than emeralds, soft pink to peach. Used for savanna villages
- Heliodor: pure yellow/ gold. Rarer than emeralds. Used for desert villages
- Goshenite: Clear, more common than emeralds. Used for snowy villages
- Maxixe: Extremely rare, sapphire-blue. Traded with jungle villagers
- Bixbite: Rarer than maxixe. Traded with swamp villagers
These all should spawn naturally, with different rarities to reflect their real life rarities and locales to reflect real-life deposits. Wandering traders could trade for these in any biome, though would not value all varieties equally. An new item, carats, could be added with variants for each beryl variety. Carats are a way to measure the size of real-life gemstones. In-game, they would act like nuggets (i.e. 9 emerald carats crafting into 1 emerald and vice-versa).
