Allow past players access to their usernames

I know we won't get access to our original accounts or our original purchases anymore; that's been made quite clear... but can we at least get our usernames back? I've been told by Minecraft support that this is my only avenue to get my username back. It's a username I use across multiple platforms and is my online identity.

Please let users who are still able to prove their old identity recover their usernames, if not their accounts as a sign of appreciation. These users are the ones that supported Minecraft in its infancy, and helped to make it the sensation it is today. I personally played since InDev and played for years before going on hiatus during the transition, and now I want to share this game with my children.

If a user can prove their link to the account (purchase receipt, associated email access, etc), let them be able to salvage at least their username so they can return with some ties to what they supported from the beginning. Don't hold our history with this game hostage... please.
