mossling
spawn: in lush caves and old-growth taiga biomes, always near moss blocks or azalea trees.
appearance: a small, turtle-like creature with a shell made of layered moss and dirt. two tiny glowing spores act as eyes. it moves slowly, leaving a faint green trail.
behavior: passive. it wanders aimlessly and occasionally stops to “sniff” the ground. if you right-click it with a bone meal, it enters a growing state for 10 seconds.
unique mechanic – moss spread:
when a mossling walks on stone, dirt, or coarse dirt, it slowly turns those blocks into moss blocks over 30 seconds. if it walks on moss while holding bone meal (from a previous feed), it has a 15% chance to grow a small azalea sapling on that spot.
drop:
· 0–1 moss clump (new item): can be crafted into moss blocks or used as a brown dye alternative.
· 1–2 spores (new item): brew them into a potion of rooting – this makes the player’s feet sink into moss or grass, giving slowness but healing 1 heart every 5 seconds while standing on green blocks.
· rare drop (5%): a twisted root – used to craft a new mossy chestplate that slowly self-repairs when you walk on moss.
interaction with other mobs:
sheep will follow a mossling because they like the fresh moss. wolves ignore it. creepers are afraid of it and back away (moss absorbs explosions slightly).
extra detail:
if you name a mossling “glimmer” with a name tag, its shell emits a soft light level of 7, acting like a moving torch.
