Why Jungle Pyramid when not Pyramid

The mossy cobblestone structures in Jungles are usually called Jungle Temples, however their official name is Jungle Pyramid. This is strange because these structures are NOT pyramid shaped in any way. A similar case exists with desert pyramids but those are actually pyramid shaped. Why give jungle temples this misleading and inaccurate name?
