With the arrival of spears and maces in Bedrock, it made me think about how axes currently fit into the combat system. Despite these newer weapons being more complex than what was traditionally expected to be possible on Bedrock due to its mobile origins, the axe still feels like it's in a strange position.
Right now, the axe deals one less damage than the sword and is often treated more as a tool than a dedicated weapon, despite being able to receive combat enchantments such as Sharpness and Smite. I think it's worth revisiting how axes work in combat.
My proposal is to give axes a cooldown system similar to the new spears, with higher-tier axes having a longer cooldown between swings in exchange for significantly higher damage. This would make the axe a high-risk, high-reward weapon focused on powerful individual hits, rather than simply being a weaker alternative to the sword.
The sword, meanwhile, could remain the more reliable choice for players who prefer consistent damage and high DPS. This would give both weapons a clearer identity: swords for fast, sustained damage, and axes for slower but more powerful attacks.
As for the mobile control issues, make it so axes can't attack once they're mining something so the cooldown doesn't affect anything.
Thanks for reading, i just think this would put more variety in the current combat for bedrock players too, making version parity also closer.
