Hello Mojang,
I would like to suggest a way to reduce the black market for Minecraft accounts.
One of the biggest reasons people buy and sell Minecraft accounts is because of rare legacy capes such as the Minecon capes. Some accounts are worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars simply because they own these capes, which encourages account theft, scams, and black-market trading.
My suggestion is to make legacy Minecon capes obtainable again, but only for players whose Minecraft accounts were created before the original Minecon event.
For example:
- Accounts created before September 24, 2016 would receive the Minecon 2016 Cape.
- Accounts created before the Minecon 2015 event would receive the Minecon 2015 Cape.
- The same idea could apply to the 2013, 2012, and 2011 Minecon capes.
This would reward long-time Minecraft players who were around during those years but may not have been able to attend the events, while also greatly reducing the financial value of old accounts.
If legacy capes become much more common among eligible veteran accounts, there would be less incentive for people to steal, buy, or sell Minecraft accounts on black markets. It would also make account hacking less profitable and help protect the community.
Thank you for considering this suggestion!
