Raccoons are passive, nocturnal mobs found in Forests, Taiga, and Plains near water. During the day they sleep curled up under trees or beside logs, hinting at their nocturnal nature. At night they become curious and slightly annoying: raccoons can steal one item from chests, barrels, or the ground. They prefer food like eggs, meat, crops, fish, and berries. They can hold any item thrown to them, but naturally spawn holding emeralds, bones, iron ingots, gold nuggets, sticks, or apples. If hit, they immediately drop whatever they’re carrying.
To tame a raccoon, lead it to a water source and throw it an egg. It will pick up the egg, wash it, and if successful, eat it and become tamed. A small red bow appears on its tail, which can be dyed. Tamed raccoons occasionally bring you gifts from their spawn item list.
When told to sit, raccoons sit upright on their hind paws with their tail wrapped around them. This pose is adorable and helps keep them still near storage or farms. Raccoons add personality and light utility without being overpowered, filling an empty space in Minecraft’s mob ecosystem.
