Why so many copper and Steampunk-kind of things, without an update on them?

Seeing as you already have copper, extensive redstone wiring, clocks and a train and boat system, could you make it so people could make their own boats and trains off of a base? And/or make an airship system that correlates with wool, engines, and/or the Happy Ghast?
