Straw beds are genuinely so great, their use and implementation are both very good. I would say they definitely deserve more, mainly when it comes to redstone.
By far the most important thing to implement is dispenser interaction. Being able to place them via dispenser would be perfect, and extremely useful. With this functionality players can create a more permanent bed system at important locations, which are not a location players want to set their spawns to. The ability to skip the night at mining outpost, a friend's house, a redstone farm, all without needing to keep hay on them at all times to craft beds would open so many doors. Using the autocrafter and dispenser system, a player could skip hundreds of nights without needing to place down a single hay bed. The redstone does this for them, and they can treat their hay bed system like a normal bed, without annoyingly changing their spawn.
How would you implement this?
I think the best way to implement this is by making it so dispensers can place beds from the horizontal position, or vertical position (with the dispenser facing up)
The main problem would be how does the game decide which direction the bed should face? The dispenser should always place the "pillow side" on the side closest to the dispenser, and the space available will govern what direction the bed will place. For example, if the bed is confined to a 1x2 space (nearby blocks limit the space) there is only one possible orientation for the bed to place.
