The mob vote was an attempt at letting the community shape the game in some way, but it backfired, as fans of the game were upset at Mojang for presenting three fleshed-out ideas per year and only adding one of them to the game, creating tension not only within the community but between the community and Mojang. The idea of the community having more involvement with what is implemented into the game is a great idea, but there are better ways to execute it. Here's an idea: a Design-A-Mob contest. The Minecraft communty is full of talented artists and creatives who would love to participate in a Design-A-Mob contest. Mojang picks a winner, and the lucky designer sees their mob added to the game, and maybe they get their own cape. I think having Mojang pick one mob out of thousands of fan-made submissions instead of choosing only one of their own ideas is a great way of getting the community involved.
