Ancient jungle temple variant with guardian mini-boss

The ancient temple, rather than any other temple, is a rarely spawning structure that appears in jungles. To enter you must collect a new item “Ancient shards” at other jungle temples. Once you have collected enough to repair the statue (the amount varies with each ancient temple) the statue is restored and you may enter. The temple has many twisted hallways you must navigate, filled with ancient warriors (a mob only found here that is fairly easy to defeat, but deals a bit of damage) red stone traps, and chests containing a random loot. When you finally reach the middle, the Temple chief ( can you guys suggest other names for the boss?) spawns and you must fight him. I don’t know much about him so please suggest ideas of how he fights or what he looks like. When you beat him, he retreats into the statue, you can loot the rest of the temple. You can also keep the statue, but only after you defeat the boss. The temple would look like an ancient Mayan or Aztec temple.
