Swamp villages are constructed from mangrove wood on stilts. Buildings are covered in thick vines and mushrooms, blending into the swamp. At the center of each village is a vine-covered stone platform featuring a fully oxidized lightning rod, signaling long-term exposure to lightning.
Trigger Logic: To protect player experience, the village maintains a "pretended calm" during the day or if the player enters an unloaded chunk. The "mutation ritual" only triggers if a chunk is loaded and a thunderstorm night occurs.
Transformation: Like the Skeleton Horse Trap, if the central lightning rod fails to conduct electricity due to oxidation, energy conducts through the village, transforming villagers into witches.
Active Maintenance: Players must protect villagers before the storm by clearing vines and scraping the oxidized layer off the lightning rod to restore conductivity.
III. Why this design is interesting
Implicit Tutorial: It guides players to understand lightning rod functionality and lightning interactions through environmental cues.
Dynamic Management: The village becomes a special outpost requiring constant maintenance, creating a tangible connection between the player and the environment.
Atmosphere: The sight of lightning in the distance leading to a "witch-infested" scene evokes curiosity and a strong desire for exploration.
Clear Feedback: A visible progress bar for the lightning rod's protection status is provided to the player.
