Redstone potentiometers - signal strength manipulation

Minecraft redstone contraptions more often than not make use of lecterns and other storage mediums combined with comparators in order to fine tune or produce specific signal strengths. The idea I propose to make a single component that acts as a redstone source just like a lever, but unlike a lever which is simply a binary on-off switch, a redstone potentiometer would be a dial shaped component (maybe even in the same style of a lever) with states from 0 to 15.

I reckon a "potentiometer" might not be the most appropriate name due to its real life counterpart being a resistor and not a power source, so maybe "redstone dimmer/dial(?)"
